How does a magnetic separator work?

It usually operates on the principle that materials containing iron are magnetic and are attracted to a magnetic field.

They usually consist of a stationary magnet or an electromagnet with a conveyor belt or drum that moves the material to be separated with the help of a magnetic field.

As the material passes through the magnetic field the iron particles that are attached to the surface will get removed from the main line.
