A company contacted RA Power Solutions with information regarding the damage to a gearbox base made of cast iron. The main engine is connected to the propeller shaft through this gearbox. Pieces of the base were broken off. Two technicians were assigned by RA Power Solutions to check the gearbox by using metal locking and metal stitching. After the paint, including the Red oxide, was removed, the cracked region was subjected to MPI using a high intensity magnaflux torch and dye penetrant examination to determine the position, length, and severity of the cracks.
